Our highest level of membership, Fellow membership within the AACS distinguishes a physician for his or her commitment to cosmetic surgery through extensive education and professional accomplishments.
The applicant must demonstrate their commitment to the specialty by submitting a case listing demonstrating they have performed at least fifty (50) cosmetic surgery procedures, as the surgeon with primary responsibility, during the year prior to applying for Fellow membership. The applicant must be a Diplomate of the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery or American Board of Facial Cosmetic Surgery or board certified in a recognized “surgical specialty” by a member board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or the American Osteopathic Association Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists (AOA-BOS), by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, or by any other board deemed equivalent by the Academy’s Board of Trustees. “Surgical specialties” include Dermatology, General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Otolaryngology, and Plastic Surgery.
Allied Health MemberPerforms professional services related to cosmetic surgery and is not a member of the medical and/or dental professions (MD, DO, DDS or DMD).
Resident MemberIs participating in a residency or fellowship training in an American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) approved surgical specialty, an American Osteopathic Association Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists (AOA-BOS) approved surgical specialty, or other surgical specialty deemed equivalent by the Academy, such as: Dermatologic Surgery, General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Ophthalmic Surgery (Ophthalmology), Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Otolaryngology and Plastic Surgery.
