Farewell Message from Dr. Shumway
Friday, January 27, 2017
After countless hours and tireless months of planning, many of you will be joining me for the Annual Scientific Meeting in just two short weeks. If you haven't already, I strongly encourage you to complete your registration right away to be among the over 600 cosmetic surgery professionals and supporters in my beloved San Diego hometown, February 9-11. From the expert educational sessions, fun social events, fascinating live demonstrations, poster presentations, and more, we have so much in store for you! This is one conference you will not want to miss, and I look forward to experiencing it right alongside you.
In other news, in an effort to continue our exciting membership growth, I invite you to participate in AACS' 2017 Member Referral Program! It has become apparent now more than ever that a strong and unified voice from the cosmetic surgery specialty is critical to our practice as a whole. To strengthen this collective voice, the Academy is asking you to refer cosmetic surgery professionals to AACS for membership in the first quarter of 2017. For each successful member referral by March 31, the referring member will receive:
- One free WebClinic of your choosing
- One entry into a drawing to win either:
The member who has the most member referrals will receive their 2018 membership free. Find all program rules and resources on the AACS website. Thank you in advance for your assistance in this promising program!
Now, the time has come for my final written words to you as President of this fine organization. I've had the most wonderful experience serving you and the cosmetic surgery profession in this capacity. I certainly consider it a highlight of my career. Looking ahead to Dr. Michael Kluska's leadership term, I'm confident that the Academy will only see more growth and more success. As my term comes to a close, I leave you one last piece of presidential advice: when possible, always take advantage of an opportunity for personal or professional development. The Academy will continue to provide you with the tools and resources to keep your professional career in cosmetic surgery on the right path. With the Academy, you can volunteer for a committee, become a Fellowship director, or try your hand at a live workshop. The opportunities for your professional growth are endless. I look forward to growing together for years to come.
I leave you in Dr. Kluska's capable hands. Thank you for a wonderful year, and I'll see you in San Diego!
Robert A. Shumway, MD, FACS
